Kevin Feige Says It Will Be 5 Years Before We Hear Anything About Disney's Take On The 'X-Men' And 'Fantastic Four'

Kevin Feige stresses that it will be a good five years before fans see a Marvel Studios take on the ‘X-Men’ or ‘Fantastic Four’.  The Disney buyout of 21st Century Fox wasn’t finalized until March 20, and Feige says that Marvel was not able to begin plotting how to incorporate these concepts into its existing film universe until then.

Feige and everyone else involved with the MCU tends to stay tight-lipped about the studio’s plans at all times, but with ‘Avengers: Endgame’ coming up, that privacy has been cranked up to 11.  There are several post-‘Endgame’ pictures that we know are in development– ‘Black Panther 2’, ‘Black Widow’, ‘Doctor Strange 2’, ‘The Eternals’, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3’, and ‘Shang-Chi: Master of Kung-Fu’— but so far none of them have been officially confirmed or announced by Disney or Marvel Studios.  Now, Feige says that the studio has the next five years planned, but won’t be making any announcements until after the release of ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ in July!

It also happens that San Diego Comic-Con International takes place in July.  That is one of the biggest pop culture events of the year and one which studios regularly take advantage of to announce future projects.  But Feige can’t even confirm or deny whether or not Marvel Studios will attend.

“I don’t wanna be annoying, but I think it … In a certain way, that is also sort of a post-Endgame spoiler.  I will say all of the post Comic-Con, post Spider-Man: Far From Home stuff, we … Here’s an exclusive. We’re gonna keep making movies. We’re gonna still keep making movies after these two. And we will talk about them soon after Spider-Man: Far From Home comes out.”

If it helps, ‘Far From Home’ opens on July 5, and SDCC is from July 18-21, meaning that this would absolutely fit within Feige’s timeframe.

When asked if plans for ‘X-Men’ and ‘Fantastic Four’ were still years away from announcement, he replied:

“Probably. Probably, only because, as you’ve heard me say before, until it was all done, we literally couldn’t do anything.  So essentially, it’s sort of Day One. But during that time, we have built and fleshed out our five-year plan of where we’re heading, the first few years of which we’ll be announcing, as I said, relatively soon, after these next two movies.”

We already know that the MCU will be a completely different place following ‘Endgame’.  On the other hand, ‘Spider-man: Far From Home’ looks like business as usual for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, almost as though the events of ‘Infinity War’ didn’t happen.

Things will probably make better sense after ‘Endgame’ arrives in theaters, which will be on April 26.

What do you hope to see happen with the Marvel Universe going forward?  Are you disappointed that it will be at least five years before we find out what Marvel Studios will do with the ‘X-Men’ and ‘Fantastic Four’?

Jax Motes

Jax’s earliest memory is of watching ‘Batman,’ followed shortly by a memory of playing Batman & Robin with a friend, which entailed running outside in just their underwear and towels as capes. When adults told them they couldn’t run around outside in their underwear, both boys promptly whipped theirs off and ran around in just capes.
